Adventure

We say Adventure … because we have a deep love of freedom and we are always searching for new routes with ever more wildness for our holidays and horse treks. Our competence with GPS orientation, our network of accommodation and the quality of our horses and equipment free us from the shackles of the beaten path.

Pyrenees

We say Pyrenees … because this land of adventure has preserved its untouched nature and absolute authenticity. In this setting, simplicity, solidarity and friendliness take on their full meaning. Our horses are true Pyrenean horses: the Mérens and Castillonais horses and the Pottok ponies.

Trekking

We say Trekking … because we enable you to travel steadily in an environmentally friendly manner. We have specialised in interant mountain horse riding and gentle travel for more than 20 years.

Spirit of the horse

We say Spirit of the Horse … because we respect our horses by offering them a natural way of life, living in a herd in over 150 hectares of open fields and on thousands of hectares of summer grazing in the mountains. We prepare them physically and technically throughout the year by giving them varied work, which guarantees their versatility and balance.
Parce que nous les préparons physiquement et techniquement tout le long de l’année en leur proposant un travail varié, ce qui garantit leur polyvalence et leur équilibre.

"In all simplicity, we welcome you to share in these moments of rare intensity"

Who Are We?

Sylvain Salamero
Sylvain

The team

Sylvain and Chloé are the creators of this wonderful adventure which is the Centre du Soularac. Founded in 2003, the structure has progressively grown to become a small paradise of 150 hectares devoted to the horses and the riders.

Sylvain Salaméro, founder of the structure, has State qualifications in alpinism and equitation. Ariège born and bred, he will share with you his passions : the mountains, horses and outdoor sports. Sylvain is also a geographer and a specialist in eco-tourism.

Chloé is an equestrian tourism guide, qualified in youth education and sports for equestrian activities and a kitesurf instructor! She is also qualified to manage the running of children’s holidays and has a Masters in Geography. A horse rider from a very young age, she combines perfectly her passions : horse riding, outdoor pursuits and animal breeding

Accompaniment

At Soularac, there is an audacious alchemy which combines rigorous professionalism (all our staff are State qualified) with a family welcome based on a passion for horses. As well as Sylvain and Chloé, we have Magali, who is a qualified riding teacher and guide who will be accompanying treks for adults and for teens. She will enthusiastically share her passion and values in French, English and German. Magali, monitrice d’équitation diplômée d’Etat et guide conférencière, encadre aussi les randonnées adultes et ados. Elle partage avec ferveur sa passion pour le patrimoine en français, anglais ou allemand.

Walfroy, also State qualified, will accompany itinerant treks for teenagers with his usual enthusiasm and professionalism.

We are a large family of hulans and horses, on the move through the season : Chloé, Sylvain, Magali and Walfoy for guiding, Clovis for logistics, Jean-Christophe who will oversee the Centre, a team of staff who will take care of the children on holiday at the Centre, our horses, organised in different herds, all glad to set out on longer outings, our dogs, who will come and play with you and you, the riders, who will discover our stunning Ariège Pyrenees mounted on our sturdy Mérens and Castillon horses.

By combining our talents, our experience and our professionalism, we give you the best possible horse trekking experience, on routes that are beautiful, wild, yet safe.

Logistics

During the treks, Clovis or Chloé will be responsible for the logistics of horses and riders and for meals and bivouacs. Alain welcomes riders to the gite La Marmite, the summer base for our adult treks.

The horses

Our horses live together throughout the year and get along together very well. Their versatility is extraordinary : from novices to competition riders, from trekking to showjumping and dressage, they will accommodate you. Our livestock consists of horses adapted to all of our activities. They work all year round and are perfectly schooled and trained. They can take you to the mountain tops, teach you to ride or even introduce you to the skills of driving and vaulting. Most of the horses are of the Mérens and Caastillon breeds, native to the Ariège.

These breeds have the particularity of living six months of the year in mountain pastures from shortly after their birth. Our brood mares and our foals graze there each year on thousands of hectares. They are sure-footed and their abilities on our Pyrenean trails will impress you. On the most rugged treks, luggage will be carried along steep paths by Tartine, our Pyrenean mule.

The facilities

The Soularac riding school covers 80 hectares with huge green fields surrounding the main facilities in the commune of Roumengoux : indoor and outdoor schools each measuring 20x40m, separate stables for horses and ponies, two saddle rooms, a club house and washrooms. Numerous hacking routes are accessible directly from the Centre.

We have a holiday camp adjoined to the riding school : kitchen, dining room, activity room, showers and washrooms in the main block and comfortable sleeping accommodation in the UCPA “trapper” style four bed tents.

Our departure point for the adult treks is situated at Camurac on the Plateau de Sault – there is a gite, field for the horses and saddle room.

Finally, our breeding program for brood mares and young foals is close to the Centre, and allows the herd to graze on over 70 hectares of organic pasture.

The Centre is certified as a “French riding school”, an “equestrian tourism centre” and an “equine livery facility” (French Equitation Federation)

We have been awarded trophies for responsible tourism in 2011 and hold an agreement from the youth and sport authorities for hosting holiday camps, have a tourism certification and have been inspected by the educational academy for hosting children.

C?était ma première randonnée équestre, et j?avoue avoir été inquiet de mon niveau à cheval. Sylvain m?a tout de suite mis en confiance et s?est assuré que le rythme était adapté à tous les cavaliers. Tout simplement inoubliable !
